Hubballi Police Arrest Three Fake CID Officers For Threatening, Extorting Money from a Woman

Hubballi, Karnataka: Three men were arrested by the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate for impersonating CID officers and extorting money from a woman in Hubballi.

The accused, identified as Parashuram Gowda, 45, businessman, a resident of KHB Colony Lingasugur, Madhu,35, farmer, a resident of Karatagi and Chetan Hadapad,39, a resident of Krishnapur Oni, Old Hubballi, were arrested by a special team formed by the police commissionerate.

The incident came to light after the woman approached the police and filed a complaint. She alleged that the accused had approached her posing as CID officers and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not pay them ₹3 lakh. They then extorted ₹30,000 from her online.

When the accused came to collect the remaining ₹20,000, the woman informed the police. A team led by Police Inspector S.H. Yallur of Old Hubballi police station laid a trap and arrested the accused.

The police have recovered two mobile phones and a bike from the accused. They have been remanded to judicial custody.

The Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar has commended the team for their swift action in solving the case.

Police warn public against fake CID officers

The Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate has warned the public against fake CID officers who may try to extort money from them. The police have advised the public to be cautious and not to entertain any such demands. If anyone encounters such a situation, they should immediately contact the nearest police station or call the 112 helpline.
