Hubballi: JPC Has No Officials Recognition, Pal’s Visit Politically Motivated: DK Shivakumar
Hubballi, EXPRESS News: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar responded to the visit by Jagadambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to Hubballi and other districts of the state. Shivakumar stated that the JPC does not have the authority to interfere in state matters, asserting that the visit is solely for political purposes and that this committee lacks official recognition.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Shivakumar remarked, “The Waqf dispute is a creation of the BJP. Our government is committed to protecting farmers, and no one will be evicted.”
He accused the BJP of using the issue for political gain ahead of the upcoming by-elections in the state. “The BJP has stirred this controversy to gain votes in the ensuing elections. State property is a state matter. The BJP issued notices regarding Waqf properties in Dharwad and other districts as early as 2019, yet now they are pointing fingers at us. We are focused on correcting past mistakes and protecting farmers. Our Chief Minister and Revenue Minister have already provided clarification on this matter,” he added.
