Hubballi: Establishing AIIMS in Raichur is a Political Commitment, Says Minister Dr Patil
Hubballi, EXPRESS News: The establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raichur is a political commitment and a promise of the government, said Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil.
Speaking to Hubli EXPRESS NEWS on the sidelines of an event organized by Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI) on Friday evening, Dr. Patil addressed questions about why the government chose Raichur over Hubballi for the new AIIMS branch.
“It was part of our election promise and was clearly mentioned in our manifesto,” Dr. Patil explained. “This is why I met Union Health Minister JP Nadda to emphasize that the AIIMS branch should be established in Raichur.”
When asked if setting up the institute in Raichur would deprive Hubballi of quality healthcare, Dr. Patil assured that Hubballi already has KMCRI, which, in terms of facilities and skilled doctors, is on par with AIIMS. He also highlighted Dharwad’s DIMHANS, another premier medical facility in the region.
“KMCRI offers nearly all the necessary medical departments and services, and the government is committed to further enhancing its facilities and infrastructure,” he added.
Dr. Patil also noted that a branch of the renowned Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences is coming up in the city, further strengthening healthcare in the region. He emphasized the government’s dedication to improving cancer treatment services, mentioning the need for a PET scan facility, which is currently lacking but will be addressed soon.
