Hubballi: Dharwad district in-charge minister Santosh Lad has unveiled a visionary plan to transform public transportation in the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad. During a recent visit to France, the minister delved into the cutting-edge Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems and took a ride aboard the HESS lighTram trolleybus, an eco-friendly innovation.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of the HESS lighTram manufacturing unit, where Lad experienced firsthand the efficiency and sophistication of these electric trolleybuses. Designed to be pollution-free, noise-free, and sustainable, the trolleybuses stand out as a promising alternative to the existing Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in the twin cities.

The HESS lighTram trolleybuses offer an impressive array of modern features, including real-time tracking, onboard WiFi, and advanced safety systems. Capable of accommodating 200-250 passengers, they are tailored for urban transit needs, blending environmental sustainability with passenger comfort.

“The world is shifting towards greener, more sustainable transport solutions, and the twin cities must be part of this change,” Lad remarked. He emphasized that the introduction of such a system could revolutionize the public transport landscape, catering to the needs of the rapidly growing population while reducing pollution and noise levels.

A Feasibility Study in Progress
The minister has initiated discussions with HESS officials, requesting a feasibility study report to assess the project’s economic and logistical viability. The proposal envisions implementing the trolleybus system under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring collaborative efforts for funding and operation.

“If the feasibility report indicates that the project is economically and operationally viable, we will take steps to introduce these trolleybuses in Hubballi-Dharwad,” Lad stated.
