Horror-Comedy Stree 2 on Fire: Advance Sales Reach Rs 4.09 Crore
The highly anticipated horror-comedy Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is already generating significant buzz ahead of its release. Despite facing competition from two other Bollywood films—Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa—the sequel to the hit film Stree is expected to have a strong opening at the box office.
In just 48 hours since advance bookings began, Stree 2 has sold over 1 lakh tickets, with a total of 124,402 tickets sold for its first day, raking in Rs 4.09 crore in advance sales, according to Sacnilk. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 14, the eve of Independence Day, with special night shows starting at 9:30 p.m., as announced by Maddock Films on their social media platforms.
In contrast, advance bookings for Khel Khel Mein have been slow, with only 2,042 tickets sold for day one, generating Rs 8.74 lakh. This is concerning for the film’s lead actor, Akshay Kumar, who has been facing a series of box office disappointments, including his recent film Sarfira. Meanwhile, John Abraham’s Vedaa has managed to sell 5,969 tickets, bringing in Rs 18.07 lakh in advance bookings for its first day.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Stree 2 is on track to surpass the total advance bookings of Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter by Monday night. The film is also expected to exceed the advance bookings of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki by Tuesday night and is projected to surpass the pre-sales of Brahmastra and Tiger 3, both of which sold over 300,000 tickets, by Wednesday night.
Given the strong advance booking trends, Stree 2 appears to be on course for a successful box office run. The original Stree was a major hit, earning Rs 180 crore against a budget of just Rs 25 crore, and paved the way for Maddock Films’ Supernatural Universe, which includes hits like Bhediya and Munjya. Stree 2 is directed by Amar Kaushik, who also directed the original Stree as well as Bhediya.
