Chandigarh: Nafe Singh Rathee, the president of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana and a former MLA, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening. The attack occurred in Jhajjar district while Rathi was travelling in his SUV. Two others accompanying him were also killed, and two more sustained critical injuries.

Details of the Attack:

Rathee and his associates were ambushed by armed men who arrived in another car. The assailants opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, but Rathee was declared dead on arrival. Rakesh Sihag, the head of the INLD’s media cell, confirmed Rathee’s death.

Investigation Underway:

The Haryana police have launched a high-level investigation into the incident. Multiple teams have been deployed to the crime scene to collect evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to the attack. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the attackers and their escape route.

Suspected Motive and Background:

Initial investigations suggest the attack may be linked to a property dispute, with gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Kala Jathedi emerging as prime suspects. Rathee, a prominent figure in Haryana politics, served two terms as an MLA and held the presidency of the state’s Former Legislators Association. He also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak and remained actively involved in political activities.
