New Delhi: Union Minister for Food Supply, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the central government has approved an increase in the purchase of green gram under the support price scheme for Karnataka.

For the 2024-25 Kharif season, the Centre has allowed the purchase of a total of 38,320 metric tons of green gram, giving a significant boost to green gram farmers in the state.

Farmers in Karnataka had been facing challenges, and they had appealed to Prime Minister Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to increase the support price purchases. Minister Joshi thanked the leaders for promptly responding and increasing the green gram purchase.

Initially, the Centre had indicated the purchase of 22,215 metric tons of green gram, but this has now been increased to 38,320 metric tons, benefiting farmers in the state.

Currently, 22,215 metric tons of green gram have already been procured under the support price scheme, and the process for procuring an additional 16,105 metric tons is underway. Minister Joshi emphasized that this step shows the Centre’s support for green gram farmers.

Minister Joshi also instructed the state government and central nodal agencies to immediately establish purchase centers across the state and begin the procurement process swiftly.

Minister Joshi extended his gratitude on behalf of Karnataka’s farmers to the Centre and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for always standing by the farmers with the support price system.
