Government Resident Doctors to Begin Indefinite Strike, Services to be Affected
Hubballi, Express News: Resident doctors working in government medical colleges are set to commence an indefinite strike from Monday, demanding an increase in their stipends.
Speaking to EXPRESS, Dr. Suhas ST, JDA President of Hubballi, stated that resident doctors will abstain from all duties except emergency services starting Monday. The protest has been organised by Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD).
He emphasized that their demand is legitimate and has been consistently overlooked. Despite numerous appeals, the concerned authorities have remained unresponsive to their pleas, leaving the doctors with no choice but to initiate an indefinite strike, refraining from non-emergency work.
Dr. Suhas pointed out that the last stipend hike occurred in 2020, with the previous increase dating back to 2016. It has been four years since their last raise, making this drastic step inevitable for the resident doctors.
With the impending strike by resident doctors, non-emergency services are likely to be significantly affected across government medical institutions including KIMS Hubballi.
