This announcement from the former cricketer signals his disinterest in participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. As of now, there has been no official comment from BJP leaders regarding Gambhir’s request. Speculations were also circulating that he might not secure the party ticket for the election, leading to this decision.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Gautam Gambhir secured victory by obtaining 6,96,158 votes, defeating Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely, who secured 3,04,934 votes, and AAP’s Atishi Marlena, who garnered 2,19,328 votes.
Throughout his tenure as a Member of Parliament, Gambhir faced controversies. Notably, he criticized former India captain MS Dhoni during a public appearance, stating, “Just a reminder: World Cup 2011 was won by entire India, the entire Indian team, and all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.” Gambhir added, “Jo Aakhri Run Banata Hai, Vahi Jitata Hai” (He who scores the final run wins).
