WASHINGTON: Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, critical of the party’s foreign policy, has engaged in discussions with Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and his advisors. These talks reportedly centered on national defense strategy and the possibility of Gabbard joining Trump’s 2024 ticket as Vice President.

Gabbard, the first Hindu in Congress, left the Democrats in 2022, calling them “warmongers” and accusing them of “cowardly wokeness.” This aligns with Trump’s stance against overseas intervention, a view resonating with a majority of Republican voters. Gabbard, a military veteran critical of US intervention and blaming Biden’s policy for Ukraine’s war, expressed openness to being Trump’s running mate.

Trump, seeking to rectify past criticisms of his Pentagon picks, explored how a potential “Trump 2.0” administration would manage defense differently. Gabbard’s recent deal with Elon Musk for a free-speech show adds to her potential appeal. While Trump hasn’t revealed his VP preferences, Gabbard emerges as a possible contender as he pursues the crucial GOP nomination.
