A tragic shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, left four dead and at least 21 injured late Saturday night in the city’s bustling Five Points South entertainment district. Police responded to the scene near 20th Street and Magnolia Avenue around 11 p.m., where multiple gunshots erupted, leaving two men and a woman dead on the sidewalk, and a fourth victim later pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.

The shooting occurred as a group of people waited outside Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge. First responders discovered numerous victims, with Birmingham Fire and Rescue transporting eight individuals to local hospitals, while others arrived by private vehicles. The police confirmed that all victims were “out in the open,” either on the sidewalk or street.

Birmingham Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that multiple shooters opened fire on the crowd, and authorities are actively investigating, urging the public to share any information. This incident marks Birmingham’s second mass shooting of the year, following a deadly July drive-by shooting. Officer Fitzgerald emphasized the increasing prevalence of gun violence, with city officials attributing the rise in shootings to societal issues, not just criminality. No arrests have been made.
