Former Minister Nirani Not Contesting Shiggaon By-Election, Confirms Bellad
Hubballi: Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, MLA Arvind Bellad, stated that many people from the Shiggaon Assembly constituency believe that the BJP should nominate the son of Basavaraj Bommai for the upcoming by-election. However, there are several aspirants outside the Bommai family as well. The final decision will be made by the party high command, and the party cadre will work for whoever receives the ticket.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Bellad mentioned that the party will soon announce its candidate for this seat, and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will travel to Delhi to discuss the matter.
Bellad also clarified that former minister Murgesh Nirani is not an aspirant for this seat, as Nirani himself has already confirmed.
Furthermore, Bellad expressed that former minister C.P. Yogeshwar should be the NDA candidate for the Channapatna constituency. This view is shared by party legislators, but the final decision rests with former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy. Kumaraswamy resigned from his position as MLA after being elected as an MP from the Mandya Lok Sabha seat, and the selection of the candidate will depend on his decision.
Bellad emphasized, “Our preference for C.P. Yogeshwar as the candidate has been communicated to Kumaraswamy. If Yogeshwar is not fielded, it will be challenging for the party to win the seat, as people are also in favor of his candidacy.”
