Former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique Shot Dead in Bandra, Two Suspects Arrested
Former Maharashtra minister and prominent Ajit Pawar-led NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot dead by three men in Mumbai’s Bandra area on October 12, 2024. The attack occurred outside the office of his son, Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddique, in Neelamnagar. Police suspect business rivalry, a contract killing, or disputes over a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project as possible motives.
Two of the three suspects have been arrested, while a manhunt continues for the third. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene, and CCTV footage is being analyzed to gather more details. The assailants reportedly fired four to five rounds using a 9.9 mm pistol, which has been recovered.
Baba Siddique, a key figure in Maharashtra’s political landscape, previously served as the state’s Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies, Labour, and FDA. He joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction in 2024 after a long career in the Congress. Known for hosting lavish Iftar parties attended by Bollywood stars, he was a well-respected leader in the state.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, visited Lilavati Hospital, where Siddique was declared dead after resuscitation efforts failed. The Congress party condemned the killing and urged for a thorough investigation, citing concerns over the law and order situation in the state.
