Former CM Jagadish Shettar Files Nomination from Belagavi
Belagavi: Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar filed his nomination papers today for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Belagavi constituency. Accompanied by his supporters and well-wishers, Shettar submitted his nomination to the District Election Officer, Nitish Patil.
Shettar, who was denied a BJP ticket in the last Assembly election to contest from the Hubballi central constituency, had quit the party and joined the Congress. He contested as a Congress candidate from the central constituency but lost to Mahesh Tenginkai.
In a surprise turn of events, Shettar again joined the BJP just a few months ago and was an aspirant to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. However, the BJP fielded incumbent MP Pralhad Joshi once again from this seat. Nevertheless, Shettar was given the ticket to contest from the neighboring Belagavi seat.
The North Karnataka districts will vote on May 7, and the Lok Sabha elections are being held in two phases in the state.
