Five MBBS Students Killed in Collision with KSRTC Bus in Alappuzha
Five MBBS students tragically lost their lives, and two others sustained critical injuries when their car collided with a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus in Alappuzha district on Monday night. The devastating accident occurred around 9 p.m. when seven medical students were traveling in a Chevrolet Tavera, reportedly at high speed.
The collision left the car in a mangled state, with shattered windows and significant structural damage. Visuals from the site showed the KSRTC bus, traveling from Guruvayur to Kayamkulam, with a dented front section. Rescue teams had to use cutting tools to free the occupants trapped in the wreckage.
Authorities identified the deceased as Mohammed, Muhasin, Ibrahim, Devanand, and Shreedeep, all first-year students from Vandanam Medical College. Three victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while two others passed away en route to the hospital. The injured students were rushed to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The KSRTC bus passengers were not unscathed, with four individuals suffering minor injuries. Officials confirmed that they are in stable condition.
According to local reports, the accident happened when the Tavera attempted to overtake another vehicle, lost control after braking, and veered directly into the bus’s path. The incident highlights the grave dangers of speeding and rash driving on busy roads.
