Five College Students Killed in Tragic Road Accident Near Chennai
In a devastating incident on the Chennai-Tirupati highway, five college students lost their lives and two others narrowly escaped death in a severe road accident near Tiruttani, Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The accident occurred when a truck collided with a car carrying seven students from a private university in Chennai.
The deceased have been identified as Kurdan (21), Yukesh, Nitish, Nitish Verma, and Ramkoman, all natives of Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. They were third-year BSc Data Science students at SRM College in Chennai. Two other students, Chaitanya (21) and Vishnu (21), sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
According to police reports, the accident took place as the group was returning to Chennai after visiting temples in Tiruvannamalai and Andhra Pradesh. The vehicle, carrying eight people including the driver, lost control and collided with a lorry. Five students died instantly, while three others, including the driver, were severely injured.
Rescue teams and Kanagamchathram police rushed to the scene following the accident. The extraction of bodies proved challenging due to the severely mangled state of the vehicle. The two injured individuals were immediately transported to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The accident caused significant disruption, resulting in a two-hour traffic jam on the busy highway. Kanagamchathram police have arrested the truck driver and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
KK Chatram police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. While the exact cause of the accident is still under review, preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle lost control before colliding with the lorry.
