Mumbai: In a significant political development, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is poised to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, just a day after resigning from the Congress party. Sources close to the matter have confirmed that  Chavan will be inducted into the BJP by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at noon today.

Following his resignation,  Chavan had remained tight-lipped about his next political move, only stating that he would announce his decision within a couple of days. However, it appears the BJP wasted no time in wooing the heavyweight politician, with reports suggesting he may be offered a Rajya Sabha seat.

This potential offer could explain  Chavan’s swift move towards the BJP. Nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections are closing soon, and joining the BJP would provide him with the platform and backing to secure a seat in the upper house of parliament.

Chavan’s exit from the Congress is a major setback for the party, particularly in Maharashtra where it is already grappling with internal turmoil. His decision to join the BJP, especially if confirmed, will be seen as a coup for the ruling party and could further strengthen its position in the state.

While  Chavan’s official induction into the BJP awaits confirmation, this move is sure to spark significant political debate and speculation in Maharashtra and beyond. It remains to be seen how this development will impact the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and the broader political landscape in the state.
