DUBAI- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Green Credit Program (GCP) at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, emphasizing a people-driven approach to climate action.

The initiative rewards participants undertaking environmentally positive actions with tradable green credits. Modi, proposed hosting COP33 in 2028.

He highlighted the urgency of addressing historical polluters and advocated for a global effort. Additionally, Modi launched a digital platform for climate action ideas and innovations, along with a data repository.

The GCP is part of India’s LiFE mission, a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) submitted to the UNFCCC. The prime minister urged proactive and positive initiatives, referencing the potential to save 2 billion tonnes of carbon emissions annually through the LiFE approach.
