Dharwad, June 12: Due to the Red Alert issued for the district by the Meteorological Department and the continuous widespread rainfall in most urban and rural parts of the district since last evening, the Deputy Commissioner has declared a one-day holiday today, June 12, for all Anganwadis, primary and high schools, PU and degree colleges in Dharwad district, keeping in view the safety of students.

In a press release issued today, the Deputy Commissioner stated that a Red Alert has been announced for the district by the weather department. With continuous rainfall, many streams and lakes are overflowing, and the public has been advised to follow safety precautions.

Due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Benni Halla and Tuppari Halla in Dharwad district last night, there is a possibility of increased water flow in these streams, which may lead to a flood-like situation.

As per the state weather department’s report, heavy rain is expected to continue over the next three days. Accordingly, the administration and the public in Dharwad district and the Benni Halla and Tuppari Halla catchment areas have been advised to remain cautious.

The Deputy Commissioner has instructed that students, teachers, and staff involved must fulfill their duties as per the regulations.

All departmental officials have been instructed to stay at their headquarters and take precautionary measures to ensure that the public is not inconvenienced due to the rain or potential flooding.
