CBI Questions Former R G Kar Principal Sandeep Ghosh in Junior Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case
Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College, was questioned by the CBI for over 90 minutes regarding the rape and murder of a junior doctor on August 9.
The CBI took over the investigation following concerns about the Kolkata Police’s handling of the case. Ghosh had recently resigned from his post on “moral grounds” but was controversially appointed as the principal of Calcutta National Medical College, sparking student protests.
The CBI has also questioned members of the Kolkata Police’s initial investigation team and several hospital doctors. Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court criticized the police and hospital authorities for failing to prevent vandalism during a doctors’ protest, warning that it could order the hospital’s closure. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the opposition of orchestrating the vandalism and spreading false information, while reiterating her demand for capital punishment for the accused.
