Canberra Pharmacists to Trial Prescriptions for Minor Skin Conditions
Canberra, Australia: Canberra residents with minor skin conditions may soon be able to seek treatment directly from pharmacists, alleviating pressure on GPs and emergency departments.
This one-year trial program follows a similar initiative launched in New South Wales, which empowers pharmacists to diagnose and treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) and provide repeat prescriptions for birth control pills.
Specific details regarding eligibility for the skin condition treatment program are yet to be finalized. However, Acting Chief Pharmacist Amanda Galbraith expressed optimism for a rollout sometime next month. This expansion of healthcare services aims to streamline access to treatment for non-urgent conditions, allowing doctors to focus on more complex cases.
