New Delhi: Former CM Jagadish Shettar’s likelihood of receiving the ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election from Belagavi may be revealed today (March 23) evening as the BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) convenes to discuss party candidates for the upcoming general elections.

BJP national chief JP Nadda will chair the meeting, with Prime Minister Modi in attendance. Sources suggest that the party may announce candidates for 150 Lok Sabha seats spanning Karnataka, Odisha, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Haryana.

The party has already announced candidates for 195 seats in its first list, followed by 72 names in the second list, and nine and 15 candidates in the third and fourth lists respectively. Some announced candidates have opted not to contest the election.

The polls are scheduled to be held in 7 phases across the country from April 19 to June 1, with the counting of votes and declaration of results set for June 4.
