The BJP on Friday called for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asserting that the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him bail in the Delhi liquor policy case has exposed his corruption by not dismissing any charges against him.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters, said, “He has received conditional bail. The Chief Minister, once facing jail, is now a ‘bail wala’ CM. The people of Delhi want him to step down, and he should listen to their voice.”

This statement followed the Supreme Court’s decision to grant Kejriwal bail in a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the alleged excise policy scandal.

Bhatia emphasized that Kejriwal’s legal team had argued his arrest was unlawful, but the Supreme Court rejected this claim and refused to dismiss the charges. “There’s no question of his acquittal, as the trial is ongoing. The Aam Aadmi Party must explain why their leader refuses to resign,” Bhatia added.

He pointed out the irony of Kejriwal’s past stance, where he insisted politicians should resign when accused of wrongdoing. “Now, despite being on bail and having spent six months in jail, Kejriwal clings to his position,” the spokesperson remarked.

In a sharp critique, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that the Supreme Court’s decision affirmed the legitimacy of Kejriwal’s arrest and validated the charges against him. “Kejriwal receiving conditional bail is no victory. The case will proceed, and he will likely face a long sentence,” Sachdeva predicted.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the now-repealed excise policy. Later, on June 26, the CBI also arrested him in a corruption case tied to the same scandal.

The Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the money laundering case on July 12, but he remains in judicial custody for the CBI’s ongoing corruption investigation.
