Bengaluru: In a groundbreaking initiative to combat the rising issue of spam, Bharti Airtel (Airtel) has unveiled India’s first network-based, AI-driven spam detection solution. This innovative tool is set to significantly reduce the volume of spam calls and messages for Airtel users across the country.
Marking a first for any telecom provider in India, the advanced system provides real-time alerts for any suspected spam calls or SMS. The best part for customers is that this service is completely free and will be automatically activated without the need for a service request or downloading any additional app, according to Airtel’s official statement.
Designed by Airtel’s in-house team of data scientists, this AI-powered solution leverages a proprietary algorithm to detect and categorize communications as “Suspected Spam.” The system analyzes a range of factors, including call or message frequency, call duration, and the behavior patterns of the sender, processing this information in real-time. By comparing these data points against known spam profiles, it accurately identifies and flags potential spam.
In addition to identifying spam calls and messages, the tool also protects users from malicious links sent via SMS. By maintaining a centralized database of blacklisted URLs, every SMS is scanned instantly to warn customers before they click on any suspicious link.
Moreover, the solution can detect irregularities such as frequent changes to IMEI numbers, a common signal of fraudulent activities. With these layered defenses in place, Airtel aims to provide its customers with robust protection against the constantly evolving threat of spam and scams.
