Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh initially rejected the Congress party’s request to use a public ground for launching Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.’

However, later, the state Home Department allowed a limited event after considering the law and order situation. The Imphal East district administration permitted only the flagging off of the yatra with a limited number of participants on January 14. The Yatra would be led by AICC former president Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress criticized the government’s decision as undemocratic and is now looking for alternative private venues. Despite the hurdles, the party plans to launch the yatra as scheduled, with leaders gathering for a peaceful rally on January 14.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary assured the Congress leaders of informing them about permission, but the government’s final decision was criticized by the party as a violation of democracy and people’s rights.
