BCCI Proposes Extension to Head Coach Rahul Dravid: Reports
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed an extension to men’s head coach Rahul Dravid, following the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023 where India finished as runners-up.
ESPN Cric Info reported that the extension is open-ended, and it remains unconfirmed whether Dravid has accepted the offer. The decision to extend is aimed at maintaining the continuity of the structure implemented by Dravid over the past two years. Dravid took on the coaching role after India’s exit in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
During Dravid’s coaching tenure, India achieved notable successes, reaching the semi-final of the T20 World Cup and maintaining an unbeaten run of 10 wins in the ODI World Cup before the final loss to Australia. Additionally, India reached the World Test Championship final, securing the current top-ranking position across formats.
Dravid, addressing the potential extension during the ODI World Cup, expressed that he hadn’t thought about it, emphasizing his complete focus on the campaign. If he accepts the extension, Dravid’s initial assignment will be India’s tour of South Africa, featuring three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests starting from December 10. Following this, India will host England for a five-Test series.
