Rajkot, India: England has announced their starting XI for the much-anticipated third Test against India, scheduled to begin tomorrow in Rajkot. The visitors have opted for a single change, bringing in express fast bowler Mark Wood in place of off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.

The biggest news, however, comes in the confirmation of young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed’s availability. Initially, visa issues upon arrival in India threatened his participation, but the matter has been resolved, allowing him to rejoin the squad.

Wood Replaces Bashir in Pace Shake-up:

Having primarily relied on a three-spin attack throughout the series, England has opted for a bolder approach with Wood replacing Bashir. This marks the first time in the series that the visitors will field two fast bowlers, reflecting their intent to capitalize on the Rajkot pitch’s potential for seam movement. Interestingly, this duo of Wood and Anderson haven’t shared the same playing XI since July 2023.

Bashir Misses Out Despite Debut Success:

Bashir, who impressed everyone with his four-wicket haul on debut in the Visakhapatnam Test, will unfortunately miss out on the Rajkot encounter. Just like Ahmed, he initially faced visa complications at the beginning of the tour, which prevented him from playing the first Test.

Ahmed Confirmed, Stokes Aims for Milestone:

England fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the talented Ahmed is cleared to play. His leg-spin could be a valuable asset, especially considering the historical success of spinners on this ground. Additionally, Captain Ben Stokes will be aiming for a special moment as he prepares to play his 100th Test match, becoming the 82nd Englishman to achieve this prestigious milestone.

England Playing XI:

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (wk), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, James Anderson

A crucial Third Test awaits both teams:

With the series currently tied 1-1, the upcoming encounter holds immense significance. England’s decision to strengthen their pace attack suggests an aggressive strategy, while India will be looking to counter it effectively. This promises to be a thrilling Test match with both sides vying for control of the series.
