Bengaluru, March 21: Hoysala Police personnel patrolling in Bengaluru have been mandated to carry firearms, according to recent directives. It has been instructed that every Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) within the Hoysala team must be equipped with a gun.

Typically, Hoysala personnel are the first responders to any crime or incident in the city. When individuals involved in such incidents possess weapons, it complicates the situation for law enforcement. This necessity for firearms stems from the need to effectively confront armed suspects.

In circumstances where the accused possess weapons, there exists a heightened risk of violence towards the police. Consequently, it may become challenging for officers to safely apprehend them. Equipping the police force with firearms is deemed essential for ensuring the successful arrest of such suspects, as per police sources.

The decision to make firearms mandatory follows a recent robbery at a jewelry store within the Kodihalli police station limits. During this incident, Hoysala police were the first to arrive at the scene, where the accused were armed. The potential threat posed by armed suspects attempting to evade capture has prompted heightened awareness within the police department, leading to the decision to mandate firearms.
