45 Lakhs for Dedication! BCCI Offers Hefty Bonuses to Boost Test Cricket
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new financial incentive scheme to encourage players’ participation in Test matches. The scheme, announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah via Twitter, will come into effect from the upcoming season.
This initiative aims to provide “financial growth and stability” to Indian Test cricketers. The scheme offers additional rewards on top of the existing match fee of INR 15 lakh. Players who feature in more than half (50%) of the Tests in a season will receive a significant boost, with incentives ranging from INR 30 lakh to INR 45 lakh per match depending on their playing frequency.
Here’s a breakdown of the incentive structure (assuming a 9-Test season):
- Matches Played | Playing XI Incentive (INR) | Non-Playing XI Incentive (INR)
- Less than 50% | Not Applicable | Not Applicable
- More than 50% (5 & 6 Tests) | 30 Lakhs per match | 15 Lakhs per match
- More than 75% (7 or more Tests) | 45 Lakhs per match | 22.5 Lakhs per match
This announcement comes on the heels of India’s emphatic 4-1 Test series victory against England in Dharamsala, which solidified their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
