20 Dead as Passenger Bus Falls into Gorge

In a tragic accident, the death toll has climbed to 20 after a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Monday morning. The incident occurred in Marchula, where the 45-seater bus, en route from Garhwal to Kumaon, fell nearly 200 meters into a gorge. Local authorities have confirmed the casualties and are conducting intensive rescue operations at the scene.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police teams are actively working to rescue survivors and retrieve bodies from the wreckage. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the district administration to expedite relief efforts. Expressing his sorrow over the loss of lives, Dhami took to social media, saying, “Received very sad news of casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations swiftly.”

The local administration, alongside SDRF teams, is working to transport injured passengers to the nearest health centers. The Chief Minister also mentioned that arrangements have been made to airlift critically injured passengers if necessary, to ensure they receive prompt medical attention.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities monitoring the situation closely to provide timely assistance to the victims and their families.
