Zika virus case reported from Pune


Today, a Zika virus infection case was reported from Pune. A 67-year-old man from Nashik has been diagnosed with the Zika virus. He is healing at the Jehangir Hospital after being hospitalised.

An eco-epidemiological survey has been started in Wadgaonsheri, Pune, by Maharashtra health authorities after a four-year-old kid from the region was identified as having Japanese encephaliti (JE). Authorities from BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital said on Thursday that he was in the rehabilitation phase. The National Institute of Virology (NIV) will examine 22 serum samples of youngsters from Wadgaonsheri for the presence of the JE virus, according to the officials, the Maharashtra surveillance officer. Also being conducted is a house-to-house survey. The JE virus is a zoonotic viral disease that causes Japanese encephalitis, which is spread by mosquitoes.
