Hubballi: In a unique initiative to mark International Women’s Day and empower women police personnel, the Gokul Road Police conducted an experiment by deploying only women police personnel for after-dark duty on March 7.
Perhaps it is to be the first time such an initiative has been undertaken in the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate.
Inspector JM Kalimirchi praised the women police personnel, saying they are just as capable as their male counterparts and can perform any task assigned to them. The duty included beat policing, monitoring accused criminals out on bail, checking vehicles in the area, and registering their presence in the e-beat system, he said.
The team received recognition for the successful execution of their duties; the team celebrated it by cutting the cake the next day (March 8) which is International Women’s Day. The ACP North Sub Division Ballappa Nandaganvi, Inspector of the police station honored the women police team.
The Mysuru and Uttar Kannada police departments have already taken similar steps.
