Hyderabad, 14 May (HS): After the Congress won the Karnataka Assembly election, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi stated on Sunday that he hoped the grand old party will keep its pre-poll pledges to the public.
The Congress staged a surprising return in Karnataka on Saturday, unseating the BJP with a large majority from its lone southern stronghold. The Congress won 135 seats in the 224-member legislature on May 10, while the incumbent BJP and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular) won 66 and 19, respectively. AIMIM ran for two seats in the elections, but lost both.
“The people of Karnataka made a decision… (they) gave Congress power. We expect Congress to keep the commitments it made to the people. However, the campaign to strengthen Majlis (AIMIM) in areas such as Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bengal would continue, according to the Hyderabad MP.
“We did not succeed there,” Owaisi stated of the Karnataka elections outcomes. ?We will put forth a lot of effort. We will not be deterred by the poll results,” he said prior to signing off.
