Hubballi: BJP HDMC member Tippanna Majjagi lost his cool when Regional Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas asked Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri to sit with HDMC members during the elections to the standing committees of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation on Monday, said sources.

Tippanna Majjagi, who is also the floor leader of the ruling party, lashed out at Biswas, claiming that the mayor should not sit with the members leaving his position. If he does so, it would be disrespectful to his post. He also claimed that he did not see the mayor sitting with other members of the corporation in the last 20 years of his political journey.

Majjagi was joined by Veeranna Savadi, another BJP member and Dooraj, Congress floor leader. HDMC Commissioner Dr Gopal Krishna pacified the members and things settled down.

It is also said that Sub Urban Police Inspector Ravichandran DB entered the meeting in police dress and he also faced ire from the HDMC members for entering the house in uniform, said sources.

Elections to the four Standing Committees of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation were held on Monday. The members of all committees were elected unopposed.

A total of 28 members were elected, which means each committee will have seven members.
