A video of former minister KS Eshwarappa receiving a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on social media. During the call, Eshwarappa expressed his happiness at receiving a call from a leader like Modi and praised the BJP’s chances of winning. The video has been widely shared on social media.
Eshwarappa had previously announced his retirement from electoral politics after being denied a party ticket. The BJP has since fielded a new candidate, Channabasappa, from the Shivamogga constituency. Eshwarappa has been critical of Jagadish Shettar and Laxman Savadi, who left the party after being denied tickets.
Despite facing tough opposition from the Congress party, which hopes to regain power in Karnataka, PM Modi praised Eshwarappa’s commitment and loyalty to the BJP and acknowledged his role in the state’s development. The BJP is currently facing anti-incumbency and the Congress is trying to capitalize on this sentiment.
Eshwarappa won five times from Shivamogga seat, and he was asked by the party to make way for new faces, the party has not given ticket to his family members.
Meanwhile, the Congress party slammed the Prime Minister for calling Eshwarappa and wrote on social media sharing the video that “PM Modi congratulating BJP leader Eshwarappa for not rebelling despite being denied a BJP ticket is unacceptable. This man is accused of demanding a 40% commission and was forced to resign over corruption charges after a BJP worker, Santosh Patil, committed suicide. By praising such corrupt leaders, the BJP is sending a clear message that it endorses corruption and illegal activities.”
