Vodafone Idea Begins 5G Trials in Delhi After Rollout in Chandigarh, Patna, and Mumbai

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially kicked off the trial phase of its 5G services in Delhi, marking a major step forward in its phased nationwide rollout. After previously launching 5G in Chandigarh, Patna, and Mumbai, the telecom operator is now testing its next-generation network in India’s capital city.

Several users in Delhi have reported receiving messages from Vi confirming the availability of 5G trials. For now, access appears to be limited to a selected group of users, but the company is expected to expand coverage to a broader user base in the coming days.

Vi’s customer support team confirmed the development in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We have started 5G trials in Delhi for select users as part of our phased rollout strategy. We’re gradually expanding coverage to more cities.”

Speed test results shared by users show varying performance across the city. While some have reported download speeds around 75 Mbps, others claimed to achieve over 100 Mbps. One user, @The\_GauravS, posted a screenshot showing speeds of 170 Mbps using Fast.com, indicating strong potential for high-speed connectivity.

In April 2025, Vi had extended its 5G services to Chandigarh and Patna. As part of its 5G deployment strategy, the company partnered with Samsung to introduce energy-efficient infrastructure. Vi is also using AI-powered Self-Organising Networks (SON) to automatically manage and optimize network performance for a more reliable and seamless experience.

In a move aimed at enhancing the fan experience during the ongoing T20 Indian Premier League (IPL), Vi had also launched 5G in 11 major cricket stadiums last month. These include venues in cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

Vodafone Idea’s 5G rollout in Mumbai began in March, with the company confirming plans to expand services to Delhi and Bengaluru by May. While Delhi’s trial phase is now live, Bengaluru is still waiting for the official launch.

Vi currently offers both prepaid and postpaid plans with 5G access. The prepaid 5G packs feature unlimited data, calling, and other perks. The most affordable plan starts at ₹299, offering 1GB of 4G data per day (with unlimited 5G usage where available), unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day for 28 days.

For postpaid users, the entry-level 5G plan is priced at ₹451, including 50GB data, unlimited night-time usage (12 AM to 6 AM), 3,000 SMS per month, unlimited calling, and additional benefits like data rollover and access to one premium service.

Vi’s expansion of its 5G footprint highlights its ongoing efforts to catch up with competitors in India’s rapidly evolving telecom landscape.
