Panjim: DK Shivakumar, the Congress party’s go-to man, is in Goa after his party asked him to leave for Goa, he left for the coastal state yesterday afternoon on a special plane.
He said that voters of Goa wanted a change and they want a Congress government and all their 37 candidates have pledged their loyalty and they are together and they would remain together.
He said he came to assist his leaders who are in Goa to oversee the formation of the government. Exit polls have predicted that Goa will once again see a hung Assembly, but this time giving an edge to the BJP.
The Congress had asked its KPCC president to reach the coastal state and soon after his landing, all the Congress candidates were shifted to a resort in Margao in South Goa to prevent BJP from approaching them.
Meanwhile, Congress has stated that it is willing to form an alliance with smaller parties such as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the Trinamool Congress. Despite being the largest party in the last Assembly election, Congress failed to form a government, and it was the BJP that swung into action and gathered the required number to form a government.
Congress does not want to repeat the same scenario. That’s why it has sent its most trusted lieutenant to the state. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has been asked to oversee the developments and asked him to open the channel of dialogue with other parties.
In the 40 members’ house, a party needs 21 seats to form the government. It is very interesting to see which party crosses the magic number. The exit polls have predicted no political party would cross the magic number. Will BJP or Congress prove the exit polls wrong? will be known tomorrow once the counting of votes is completed.
