Hubballi: Twin city Congress leaders and workers staged a protest in front of the Income Tax office in the city, condemning the Enforcement Directorate’s summons to senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday.
The protesters gathered outside the IT department office near Navanagar on Hubballi-Dharwad Road. They raised slogans against the BJP by wearing black ribbons.
The protesters tried to enter the IT office, but the police barricaded the entrance of the office and prevented them from entering the premises. At this point of time, a verbal dual broke out between police and Congress party workers.
The police forcefully lodged them into van and took away from the protesting site. Later they were released.
Congress party workers alleged that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Modi misusing central agencies such as CBI, and ED to silence the opposition, PM Modi was under the illusion that by arresting opposition leaders on false or fake charges they can easily finish the opposition parties, but Congress has such strong roots that they simply can’t finish the party, they said.
Congress leaders Altaf Hallur, Anilkumar Patil, Rajat Ullagaddimath, Deepa Gouri, Sadanand Danaganavar, Rajashekhar Mensinkai and others were present.
