Belagavi: In an attempt to catch a man accused of murder, Belagavi police fired two rounds of ammo at his leg. The accused was taken to the district hospital.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Veerabhadreshwar Nagar, near Dharmanath Bhavan in Belagavi. Police had to shoot at the accused as he tried to flee after reportedly assaulting a constable who tried to apprehend him.

Vishal Singh Chouhan was the accused who suffered the bullet injuries. Sources said ACP Narayan Bharamani was the cop who shot at the accused to nab him.

What is the case?

The Belagavi police had formed four teams to catch the killers of Raju Doddabommanavar, who was brutally murdered on the outskirts of Belagavi near Mandoli village on March 15.

The police had apprehended four to five suspects in connection with the murder case, but one of them was still at large.

According to the sources, ACP Narayan Bharmani got a definite tip-off about the accused. He immediately left for the spot with his colleagues, two CPIs, one PSI, and a few other personnel, and at around 3.30 am, he and the police team spotted the accused near Koyna Hotel in Veerabhadreshwar Nagar. They tried to catch him but accused Vishal Singh tried to assault the police with a sharp weapon, and a CAR constable, Yaseen Nadaf, allegedly suffered injuries caused by the accused, said sources.

The police have secured a country-made pistol, and three knives from the accused. Vishal Singh has more than 10 cases against him and he was also allegedly involved in Raju Doddabommanavar murder case. Raju was a real estate developer, said police sources.
