USA: Search Underway After Idaho Backcountry Avalanche: Three Missing
Three individuals are missing after being caught in an avalanche near Stevens Peak in the Idaho backcountry, close to the Montana border.
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, along with assistance from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Air Force, initiated a search and rescue operation.
The incident occurred in an area under an avalanche danger warning due to recent snowfall and blowing winds. The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center had cautioned about the likelihood of avalanches triggered by human activity. This event follows the first U.S. avalanche death of the season in California, emphasizing the heightened risk in mountainous regions.
