US News: Tragedy Strikes on Vegas Freeway as Two Troopers Lose Lives While Assisting Motorist

In a heartbreaking incident on Thursday morning, two Nevada state troopers, Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, lost their lives while aiding a driver on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. The officers had halted to check on a motorist found asleep behind the wheel around 3:30 a.m. when a white Chevrolet HHR struck them, according to Las Vegas police.

The callous driver of the Chevrolet HHR fled the scene without stopping, leaving the troopers critically injured. One trooper was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while the other tragically lost his life at the scene of the incident. Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, both husbands and fathers, leave behind grieving families.

Las Vegas police spokesperson Branden Clarkson conveyed the somber details, highlighting the officers’ selfless act of stopping to assist a fellow motorist in need.

The police said that they have arrested a suspect in connection with this case and investigation is going on.
