US Airstrikes in Iraq: One Security Member Killed, 18 Wounded in South Baghdad
In a statement, the Iraqi government announced that a security member was killed and 18 individuals were wounded in US airstrikes on Iraqi security sites south of Baghdad.
The Iraqi Prime Minister’s media office condemned the attacks, calling them a “clear and unconstructive hostile act” that contradicts the stated desire of the US to strengthen relations with Iraq.
The strikes targeted bases of the paramilitary Hashd Shaabi forces in central Iraq, causing both human and material losses. The Iraqi government stressed that this action harms bilateral relations, complicates dialogue, and represents an unacceptable violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
The US airstrikes were in response to a drone attack on a US base near Erbil Airport in northern Iraq, which wounded three US service members.
