London: Two UK women, Nicola Bradley and Tracy Dixon, have been sentenced to 25 months in jail for the “sadistic” killing of a friend’s African grey parrot, Sparky.
The incident occurred during a drinking session in Carlisle. They sprayed Sparky with cleaning products, used a tumble dryer, and broke her neck. The judge at Carlisle Crown Court criticized their cruelty as extreme and unfathomable.
Sparky’s owner, Paul Crooks, shared his struggle with anxiety, panic attacks, and sleep issues after the event. On July 30 of the previous year, the women were given a ride by Crooks after a night of drinking. Upon returning home from shopping, Crooks found Sparky dead and disfigured, with her head hanging from the cage.
The court also revealed that the women had attempted to feed Sparky to Crooks’s dog before resorting to the brutal act of using a running tumble dryer. Crooks lamented the void left by Sparky’s absence, stating that the house feels eerily quiet without her.
