British nurse Lucy Letby has been found guilty by a Manchester Crown Court jury of killing seven newborns and attempting to murder six others at Chester Hospital in the UK.
Her methods included injecting air and insulin into their bloodstreams, introducing air into their gastrointestinal tracts, and overfeeding them to administer fatal overdoses of milk or fluids. Letby’s actions make her the most prolific child killer in modern UK history.
Disturbing messages sent to colleagues became key evidence against her; these messages revealed her contact with colleagues after the infants’ deaths, garnering sympathy from unaware staff members.
The texts also showed her willingness to take extra shifts in the neonatal intensive therapy unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. These messages exposed her reactions as concerns grew over the rising infant mortality rate at the hospital.
