New Delhi: A U.S. official stated that only China can explain President Xi Jinping’s absence from the G20 summit in New Delhi. The summit was anticipated as an opportunity for a potential meeting between Xi and U.S. President Joe Biden.
The U.S. deputy national security adviser, Jon Finer, stressed that it’s China’s responsibility to clarify the absence, expressing concern if China isn’t committed to the G20’s success. Speculations arose that China may be prioritizing other groupings like BRICS. Russia’s President Putin is also absent, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov representing Russia.
