Two patients died due to a power failure in VIMS? No, says the director

Ballari: The premier health institute of the Kalyan-Karnataka region, the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), is back in the news after two patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit died due to an alleged power outage.

A video shot by a person, ICU in the Dark, has gone viral on social media. It is also alleged that VIMS authorities shifted around 10 patients from the ICU to the Operation Theater after a power failure.

In response to this allegation, VIMS Director Dr Gangadhargouda gave clarification, saying the patients did not die because of power failure. One patient died due to internal bleeding, the patient had suffered a snake bite; and another patient died due to diabetic complications; he suffered multi-organ failure; and at the same time, the power supply was disrupted; both incidents were just coincidences, claimed the director.
