Speeding car rams the rear of a tractor on which they were travelling

Dharwad: Two people were killed on the spot and five suffered injuries after a speeding car crashed into the rear of the tractor on which they were travelling near Honnapur village in Shiggaon taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru highway on Friday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Hanumantappa Mulagi, 55, and Chandru Sirkol, 40, both residents of Sherewada village in Dharwad district, said the police. Devotees from Sherewada were going to the Mailaralingeshwar fair in Huvinahadagali taluk in Vijayanagara district when the accident happened.

According to the sources, the deceased and five others were sitting on the end of the trailer, leaving their legs hanging. The speeding car suddenly rammed the tractor, and because of the force of the collision, Hanumantappa and Chandru Sirkol and the other five fell on the road; both Hanumantappa and Chandru died on the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to a hospital in Shiggaon; later, they were shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.

Tadas police rushed to the spot and helped the injured shift to the hospital.
