Haveri: Three labourers died on the spot and five sustained injuries after a maize laden truck on which they were travelling turned turtle near Hasaritti village in Haveri taluk on Monday.
Guttal police said that the four labourers were sitting on top of a maize-laden truck and another four were in the driver’s cabin. The maize-laden truck was going to Hosaritti from Handiganur.
The driver of the truck was not able to control the truck in a curve and the truck overturned. Three of the four labourers who were sitting on the top of the maize bags died on the spot after they got stuck under the bags. The locals managed to rescue one of the injured labourers, said the police.
The deceased have been identified as Manjunath Amarapur, 30, Manjunath Kittur, 27, and Anand Devaramane, 28.
The injured labourer was shifted to Haveri district hospital for treatment, and the remaining labourers were shifted to Guttal government hospital, where they were said to be out of danger. The police have registered a case against the driver of the truck.
