Thieves break into a house in broad daylight and steal away cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh.

Hubballi: A case of house burglary was registered at the Gokul Road police station on Monday.

Thieves gained entry into the residence of Shwetha Rahul Tikare in Ashok Vana between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm by breaking open the lock of the front door and stealing away 221 grammes of gold ornaments worth Rs. 8.84 lakh, silver articles weighing 220 grammes worth Rs. 8,800, and cash Rs. 20,000 kept in the almirah locker in the bedroom.

The police have got CCTV footage of the accused and a hunt is on to nab them. The Gokul Road police said that the accused might be from another state. An autorickshaw driver who dropped the accused off at the railway station informed the police that the accused were speaking in Hindi.

The police said that these kinds of thieves often change their location. They steal the valuables just one or two hours before boarding a train. They also keep an eye on the locked houses, hence it is advised for the dwellers to use interlocks so that thieves will not come to know that the house is locked. And for safety reasons, CCTV should be installed if possible, they said.
