The government will issue an order to start building water bodies along the NHs: Chief Minister Bommai.

Belagavi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that his government will begin building water bodies along the National Highway, as suggested by Union Minister for Road Transport and Roadways Nitin Gadkari and the project will begin in the Belagavi district on a pilot basis.

On Monday, after laying foundation stones for five national highway projects in Belagavi with Union Minister Gadkari, the Chief Minister said the gathering that his government would endeavour to build water bodies along the highways, as advised by the Gadkari.

Mr. Gadkari requested that two activities, the digging of existing or new waterbodies for procuring soil for NH projects and the creation of water storage facilities, be coordinated, and the Chief Minister assured the minister that his government would begin working on this novel idea as soon as possible, and that a government order would be issued at the earliest possible moment.

Ponds or water storage facilities will be built along the national highway in the Belagavi district, starting from Nippani, Belagavi, and continuing to Kittur, he said.

National Highway projects require soil for the construction and the plan was to link the requirement of soil with the digging or desilting of ponds or construction of check dams it would serve two purposes, said Gadkari recently said the CM.

He said that after reaching Bengaluru he would do this as a first thing and issue a government order in this regard, CM told Gadkari while addressing the gathering.
